Simucase partner recognized for ‘transformative solutions’ by IPEC, COF
Posted September 6, 2023
A Simucase partner and sponsor has been recognized for their innovative and transformative solutions to improve the health of their communities.
The University of South Dakota’s Child and Adult Advocacy Studies (CAASt) program sponsored a Simucase assessment to improve trauma-informed care for students and providers in their community.
This work was awarded an honorable mention for community empowerment and education by the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) and the Public Health Service Commissioned Officers Foundation for the Advancement of Public Health (COF). They were recognized at a ceremony in July at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Learning Center in Washington, D.C.
Simucase sponsorships such as the CAASt partnership allow organizations to customize simulations that provide students, faculty members, and professionals opportunities to observe and assess best practices in a subject area. The simulations are based on real people’s stories and allow users to practice and learn in a safe, virtual setting.
“Partnerships such as these allow learners to enhance competencies and expand their knowledge through observation,” said Simucase’s Maura Lavelle, director of simulation development. “We are proud of the work we did with the University of South Dakota’s CAASt program to customize a simulation to meet their teaching goals, and we congratulate them on this much-deserved recognition.”
The principal investigators from the University of South Dakota’s CAASt program include: Shana Cerny, MS, OTD, USD School of Health Sciences Department of Occupational Therapy; Kelly Bass, PhD, DSW, MSW, CSW-PIP, USD School of Health Sciences Department of Social Work; and Carrie Sanderson, JD, MPA, USD Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment.
